We will continue to strive for further improvements and look forward to developing new ways to engage, reward and recognise the achievements of people within our community who use their free time to volunteer to help others.”
toogoodtowaste is the leading re-use & recycling charity and Social enterprise operating in Rhondda Cynon Taf. They reduce waste by collecting re-usable household & electrical items and redistributing them via their charity shops in Ynyshir and Aberdare. The income they raise enables them to help low income households and provide training and volunteering opportunities. They are also able to provide volunteers with out-of-pocket expenses, training and corporate clothing.
Investing in Volunteers is the UK quality standard for organisations involving volunteers. It aims to improve the quality of volunteering experience for volunteers and to encourage organisations to better recognise the enormous contribution made by volunteers. Investing in Volunteers is managed in Wales by Wales Council for Voluntary Action.
toogoodtowaste was assessed against a range of best practice standards and proved to excel in all aspects of working with their volunteers. Lynda Davies Chief Executive Officer at toogoodtowaste added: “Volunteers have always been at the heart of this organisation. We provide a variety of roles giving people their first experience of the world of work, or providing people with skills (who may have taken early retirement or simply want to try something new) a chance to use those skills to help others. Whilst many people help us for a short time to add real work experience and training to their C.V., others who may have support needs, stay as part of the family. Together we have created a learning culture for everyone around the charitable service that we provide. We hope that more people from all ages, skills & ethnic origins will contact us to learn more about volunteering at toogoodtowaste.”
toogoodtowaste are always looking to attract new individuals to join their team, from those with no skills looking to enhance their CV, to graduates simply looking to gain some work experience. toogoodtowaste hope that by reaching this volunteering standard, they can demonstrate their commitment to supporting volunteers throughout the organisation.
