On October 1, I will be launching my ‘Say NO to Ageism’ campaign, which will challenge the myths and misconceptions about older people and highlight the amazing contribution they make to our communities across Wales.
To support the campaign, I want to develop a series of case studies that will be shared online to not only highlight the kinds of ageism and discrimination experienced by older people, but also the impact that this has on their lives.
In order to capture these experiences, I have developed a short questionnaire (attached). I would be very grateful if you could share this with your groups / forums / networks. Hard copies of the questionnaire can be provided upon request.
I will also be using the Twitter hashtag #EverydayHeroes throughout the campaign to showcase the ways that older people make a difference to people’s lives and our wider communities (see attached information sheet), contributions which are often unseen or overlooked.
This is another part of the campaign where I would welcome your help and support. If there are any members of your groups / forums / networks that are everyday heroes, and they are happy to be included as part of the campaign, then take a photo of them holding up a campaign sign that outlines what they do that makes them an everyday hero and send that to us along with their name, age, and the town or city in which they live and we’ll post these via Twitter throughout the campaign.
I would also be grateful if you could please circulate the attached #EverydayHeroes information sheet so that people can get involved themselves or encourage friends and family who may not be part of a group / forum / network.
By working together to #SayNoToAgeism and highlighting the amazing contribution made by older people in Wales, we can change the way society thinks about growing older and make a big difference to people’s lives.
You can send your photos to email@example.com or post them to
