WOULD YOU MAKE A GOOD LIPREADING TUTOR?
A qualified lipreading tutor is able to help people who are deaf in many ways:
- Developing their lipreading and other communication skills
- Helping hearing aid users get the maximum benefit from their aids
In the relaxed and informal setting of a lipreading class, the tutor can also provide lots of useful information on a range of relevant topics including helpful local, regional and national organisations, communication tactics and aids for television and telephone.
The course covers many areas including: The teaching of lipreading and other communication skills, the practical and psychological implications of deafness; adult education; the medical and audiological aspects of deafness and information and services available for deaf people.
What qualities are we looking for in applicants?
We are looking for mature people with a warm and caring manner and a professional approach.
You should be able to speak clearly and be willing to learn how to communicate effectively with people who are deaf. We welcome applications from people who are deaf.
Successful candidates will have their course fees paid, but will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses if they need to travel to the training venue.
(The course will be run in Pontypridd during the 2015/16 academic year in the form of a number of block study weeks).
