Summary of United Nations Convention on the Rights of a Child – On 20 November 1989, governments worldwide promised all children the same rights by adopting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, also known as the UNCRC. The Convention changed the way children are viewed and treated – in other words as human beings with their own distinct set of Rights. These Rights describe what a child needs to survive, grow and reach their potential. The vast majority of countries in the world have signed up to these Rights, including the United Kingdom.
