Three Projects walked away from Interlink RCT’s Vol Factor Visioning Event £500 richer last night after the Youth Led Grants Panel guided them through a successful project design session.
The Vol Factor grant scheme, funded by the Welsh Government’s Gwirvol Programme via WCVA, supports projects to involve 14-25 in volunteering projects in Rhondda Cynon Taff, and is administered locally by Interlink RCT.
RCT People First, Aberdare Valley Football League and Avant Theatre all brought young people with big ideas to the event, and Youth Grants Panel Members Kari Jones, Ryan Davies and Scott Russell helped them to convert these ideas into successful project proposals in the two hour session hosted by Spectacle Theatre in Porth.
RCT People First will develop a number of opportunities for young volunteers to support their clients with learning disabilities to enjoy an Adventure Day in Cardiff; Aberdare Valley Football League will develop a suite of new volunteering roles for young people to engage in delivering their successful Football Academy in the Cynon Valley, and Avant Theatre Cymru are mentoring a group of young people known as Theatre Tri to engage young people in putting on a production known as “Punk Rock” in the Rhondda.
At the end of the session Scott Russell was delighted to announce that three projects would be funded, subject to a written bid and budget being submitted formally to Interlink RCT.
Interlink’s Youth Volunteering Advisor Thomas Crockett said: “It was fantastic to sit back and watch the Panel members lead on the process of making the magic happen in the room. Each Member spent time with each applicant to ensure their projects were rounded to their satisfaction, and all present on the night should be proud to have played their part in a really exciting and successful evening.”
The Vol Factor grant scheme remains open and will accept applications for youth-lead volunteering projects in Rhondda Cynon Taff until Friday 13th October. Shortlisted applications will then be invited to interview on the evening of Wednesday 18th October.
