Annually, the Wales Audit Office undertakes a programme of Improvement Studies and Local Government National Studies. These are studies that help public bodies manage the financial challenges they face by providing authoritative, unbiased, evidence-based analysis and advice. The areas we undertake studies in are consulted on and for 2018-19 we are delivering a study on First point of contact assessments under the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014.
As part of this work we will focus on the following areas:
- the comprehensiveness of the assessments;
- whether the assessment is person-centred including ease of access;
- whether the assessment process is leading to a shift towards prevention in social care and non-social care services; and
- the impact of assessments on people’s wellbeing and interaction with the requirement of the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act 2015.
The third sector has a crucial role to play in terms of social care needs assessments and it is vital we hear your views as part of our study. To do this, we have developed a questionnaire to find out your views on these assessments across Wales. We would request that you complete and submit your response by 31 December 2018.
We understand the demands we are placing on you by asking for this information but believe the investment of your time will allow us to deliver a better quality output which will benefit public bodies, and ultimately, the citizens of Wales.
I hope this provides you with sufficient detail on our planned work and the approach we are proposing. If you have any queries please feel free to get in touch with the WAO project team by contacting us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
