the new Walking Rugby sessions that are starting next week at the Play Yard, Treorchy. We are hoping to build a regular walking rugby session in the Upper Rhondda which can complement the existing sessions at Clydach (Mid Rhondda) and Pontypridd, which could lead to tournaments and games against the other areas, and grow the activities throughout Wales.
Working in partnership with WRU, Welcome To Our Woods and Play It Again Sport the sessions are every Tuesday 11am. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUxviyoKEao
The sessions are delivered as a health activity for both men and women who would like to get more active and socialize. It is a great indoor venue at the Play Yard with 2x 3G pitches, plus also a café for a coffee afterwards and more socializing.
Participants will learn the basic skills of rugby union eg passing, catching, defending, attacking etc
A typical session will include warm up drills and ball handling skills, a game with people with similar abilities which follows a touch rugby format and cooldown stretches to finish.
The sessions are open to any ages, but the low intensity nature is ideal for people over 50 or people with health limiting conditions. The social aspect will be fantastic for people who maybe a bit socially isolated.
