Volunteers Week in RCT: Mid Week Report!
With Volunteers Week in full swing in RCT we pick out some more highlights from the week so far, and highlight what we can still look forward to. We have counted 26 organisations involved in these events but we are sure there are more. Let us know!
Canolfan Pentre Chair and Interlink Trustee Elizabeth “Buffy” Williams won the Pride of Wales Community Hero Award for her fantastic work supporting the local community through Canolfan Pentre! To quote Buffy on Twitter: “Absolutely thrilled to have been nominated let alone actually win. Shocked was in understatement when I received the call today. #feelingproud #communities #Rhondda”.

Earlier today Llantrisant Job Centre hosted a Volunteer Event attended by Interlink RCT and The Shed, Bobath, Follow Your Dreams, Ty Hafan, Home Start RCT, Pontyclun Community Council, Ynysybwl Regeneration Partnership Men’s Sheds, Llanharan Community Shop, Volunteering Matters and Cancer Research UK. Avant Cymru invite you to a Festy Porth event at the Factory, Jenkins Street, Porth at 10am to collect ideas on what Porth needs, and to encourage people to volunteer locally.
Llanharan Drop In Centre hosts Interlink RCT’s Youth Volunteering Celebration night where young volunteers from the 12 organisations funded by the Vol Factor Youth Grant Scheme will be recognised by the RCT CBC Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities, Well-being & Cultural Services, Councillor Rhys Lewis. This year the panel awarded grants to 14 projects, namely Doggy Bag Project and Volunteer Recruitment Team Building (Llanharan Youth Drop In); Mental Health Training (Ferndale Youth Provision); Our Poppy (Hirwaun YMCA); Mental Health Forum (Spectacle Theatre); Homework Club and Cooking Classes (Fernhill Youth Project); Young Volunteers Football Project (Aberdare Valley AFL); Healthy and Active Activity Day (RCT People First); How Green Is My Valley Now? (Avant Theatre), Developing a Young Volunteer Network (Pontypridd Basketball Club); Shuttle Time (Active Valleys); Community Sports Volunteers (Urdd) and Creating Safe, Sociable Places (Eventsparks).
Then on Friday June 7th Interlink RCT are proud to support Cynon Valley Museum’s Volunteer Event, celebrating their team of over 30 volunteers.
