Pontypridd visual artist and set designer Becky Davies will develop community-based project On the Bridge in February-April 2020, with support from National Theatre Wales.
Through a series of workshops, research for the project will engage local people in creating a multi-sensory journey of exploration, with the aim of unearthing communities’ everyday stories in response to the changing face of Pontypridd. The people of the town will be invited to share their own off-the-beaten-track places of significance, against the backdrop of a major redevelopment project, which Becky and her collaborators will re-animate, through creative exploration.
With the support of Elise Davison, Artistic Director of Taking Flight Theatre, the project aims in the long-term to provide a truly accessible experience co-authored by Pontypridd’s communities, and created with input from their stories and voices. The Bridge aims to reinforce and celebrate Pontypridd communities’ connections to place and to one another, and the changes the area has seen over the ages.
Seeking to be as inclusive as possible, workshops will run over seven weeks from February to April, with a sharing session at the end of this research period. The Bridge‘s aim is to spark conversation, and Becky truly believes in the value of this project in re-building essential relationships between Pontypridd’s residents, local organisations, businesses and community groups, at this seismic time in its history.
We would love to welcome all residents along to the first planned workshop at Clwb Y Bont on the 21st of February from 10am to 5pm. The workshops are free of charge refreshments will be provided.
